At Whole Foods the other day I came across the Chinese Lantern Flower. I’m ashamed to say I have never noticed this flower before, but then again, I am seeing the whole world with new eyes now that I’m a photographer. It has a delicate, fragile beauty and the orange color simply compels me.
I set the flowers in a vase and in a dark room lit by faint light from outside. Then, with my flash as fill light, I captured the fragility of the flower, the nuances of its shadows and highlights within its wrinkles.

Satori loves her “spa day” at Lollilocks, the hair salon we go to in Boulder designed just for kids. As a photographer mom to a 3 year old, I must admit I used the fun haircut experience as a bribe to get her to cooperate in a photo shoot later on.

Dinner at Beau Jo’s pizza. Here Satori is demonstrating her coloring in the lines skills.

And finally, the Mama is rewarded with some pretty pictures!

And on our way home, a short hike in Settler’s Park, Boulder, at dusk.

Tonight the family went to our nearest state park - Golden Gate Canyon. The Visitor Center provided autumn hues as we strolled around the pond. This wasn’t really a photo shoot, just Angela scoping out the “background” nature has provided.
Here’s my favorite image of the evening:

We had a tired daughter though, so David had to hold her in his arms much of the time.

Cousin Peyton came to visit us today and after playing with all of Satori’s old toys, it was time for a photo shoot! First, we had to color coordinate with Peyton’s white dress with colorful flowers near the collar, pulling out a white dress of Satori’s. I thought the colorful legos would look great in this white, high key photo, and they were a hit with the kids!

Then we headed outside on our mountain property.

But of course Angela can’t resist pulling out the fairy wings!

Then back to the house for some messy finger painting. Peyton loved it!
